Is it safe to store keys in a locker?
In a city as dynamic and touristy as Seville, lockers have become a popular solution for storing personal belongings, from backpacks to electronic devices. But a common question that arises is: is it safe to store keys in a locker? And no, we’re not talking about the locker key itself, but the keys to suitcases, rented flats or private homes.
Before talking about security, it is important to understand why many people choose to keep their keys in a locker:
Comfort
Whether you're exploring the city, playing sports, or attending an event, carrying your keys around isn't practical. A locker frees you from the worry of losing them or accidentally dropping them.
Protection
En lugar de dejar las llaves en un lugar menos seguro, como un bolsillo de chaqueta o un bolso, un locker ofrece una barrera adicional contra el robo o el extravío.
Modern locking systems: Most modern lockers are equipped with electronic locking systems, such as code numbers or electronic locks, which offer a much higher level of security than traditional locking systems. This reduces the risk of unauthorised access to your locker.
Strong materials: Lockers are designed with durable materials, such as reinforced steel, which make them very difficult to break or tamper with. In addition, locker and locker suppliers usually maintain their facilities under strict security standards and regular inspections to ensure they are in good condition.
Surveillance and location: Lockers are often located in high-traffic or well-guarded areas, such as train stations, shopping centres or gyms, where security cameras and staff are available. This adds an additional layer of protection for your belongings.
Controlled access: Some lockers in Seville are located in places with controlled access, meaning only authorized individuals can enter the locker area. This may include entry codes, key cards, or even supervision at the front desk.

Do not share your code
If your locker uses a code system, make sure you don't share it with anyone. Change the code regularly if possible for added security.

Opt for high-quality lockers
If you have the option, choose well-known luggage storage facilities in Seville that have good reviews and are located in safe areas.

Do not leave valuables visible
Although lockers are secure, it's a good idea not to leave valuables in plain sight inside. Store everything in a way that makes it difficult to see from the outside.

Consider personal belongings insurance.
Some companies offer optional insurance to cover your belongings in case of loss or theft. Consider this option if you keep valuables with your keys.

This decree aims to regulate the growing tourist rental sector, establishing clear standards regarding habitability and the minimum requirements that these accommodations must meet. Among the new provisions, tourist apartments must have a minimum surface area of 14 square meters per guest, and may never have less than 25 square meters in total.
One of the most notable points of the decree is the prohibition of using street furniture on public streets to install security boxes or padlocks for key collection. If the property manager cannot personally welcome guests, these key collection systems must be located in private areas or within the building itself, always respecting the urban environment. This measure seeks to prevent public spaces from becoming unregulated access points, thus protecting street furniture and the aesthetics of the streets.
In addition to regulating the delivery of keys, the decree also establishes other important conditions, such as the mandatory registration of tourist accommodations with the Ministry of Tourism. It also specifies that accommodations cannot have access restrictions based on race, religion, or sex, and that they must be sufficiently furnished, equipped with appliances, and have air conditioning during the summer months. With these new regulations, the Andalusian government seeks to guarantee the quality of tourist services, protecting both users and the urban environment.
